Big thanks to friend and voice actor Erik Sheppard for clueing me in to the video below.
Erik, like me, is a big supporter of the VOICE events, and it wasn’t until I looked at the video that I realized that my voice is the first one heard!
OK, so that’s not a compelling reason to watch it…but the video is just reminder of how much fun this event is, and how hard James Alburger and Penny Abshire work each time to make this thing an unabashed success.
The take-away message: Start saving and planning now for the June 2010 event. I’m gonna be there in my usual role as ‘Host”, and I am hoping you will be there too.

The Voice Over Creative International Experience that was so successful in Las Vegas for 2007 and again in Los Angeles in 2008 is now working towards a secured June 2-5, 2010 date Century Plaza Hyatt in Los Angeles (same location as ‘08).
Organizers James Alburger and Penny Abshire are making the formal first announcement on John Florian’s VoiceOverXtra website, and you can click HERE to see the full details.

August’ll be here before you can say "The Clinton Whitewater Affair". So?…you may ask.
August 8-11 marks the second annual VOICE conference. ‘VOICE’ stands for Voice Over International Creative Experience. The first was held here in Las Vegas in March of ‘07, and I don’t think I’d be out of sync to say it was hailed as a positive one-of-a-kind experience by all attendees. Sure, the meeting place was smoky (something that’s being fixed for ‘08), but the presenters, the vendors, the information gleaned, and the networking with fellow artists was all more than worth the price of admission.
Now, we prepare for the 2nd annual VOICE.
Changes:
1) This one is in L-A (aside from possibly NYC, probably the top VO market in the world).
2) The organizers are solely James Alburger and Penny Abshire.
3) The presenter/speaker list is significantly beefed-up.
4) The accommodations are top-notch: the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
5) The event is shorter, more concentrated (4-day weekend).
6) All variables considered — the price of admission is lower than last year.
7) Deep discount for last year’s attendees (May 15th extended deadline)
Pre-arranged ISDN facilities for those who need it during the sessions.
Same Ol’ Same Ol’
1) Same goofball MC/Introducer (ahem).
2) Same great (expanded) list of vendors/sponsors
3) Same wonderful opportunities for networking and sharing with fellow voice-actors.
4) Same expectation of unscheduled surprises
5) Bob Bergen!
6) Time for one-on-ones with certain coaches
7) Your choice of beginner, accomplished, or professional-grade training.
I’m not one to get really excited about conventions. I see ‘em come and go ALL THE TIME in Las Vegas. But this one I’m almost giddy about. That’s because I know how much fun I had last year, and how much better it’ll be this year.
Also, I’m on the VOICE 2008 advance team, and I’ve seen for at least two months, now, the deep involvement of the organizers and staff…the attention to detail, their own excitement in putting this on, and the eagerness to make this a true LEARNING experience.
I understand what a drain a trip to LA can be on the family budget. The timing may not work out. You may have already committed to some other VO training. There are many many legitimate reasons why you could talk yourself out of going to VOICE 2008.
Got it.
But…. can you really afford NOT to?
Call me if you have any questions about VOICE. If I can’t answer them, I’ll refer you to someone else who can, or find the answer within minutes. Bobbin Beam is also on the advance team, and I know she would be equally willing to help with questions.
The blog entry below has info on the latest release of details of yet more presenters who have committed to being part of the event. There will be more of these announcements coming regularly, and one particularly important announcement about a partner which is joining-in….but it’s not quite set in stone yet. Watch for it!
