Caryn Clark and September Day have arrived at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza (HRCP).

Caryn writes on the VO-BB: I'M HERE!!!! It's 3:40 pm ET… but only 12:40
pm PT!!! What an easy trip. Took the SuperShuttle to the hotel… easy
breezy!!

Can't wait to see everyone… and find out what you look like. We do
need buttons… that Yo – What Up button would've been perfect. Now I
see people in the lobby and wonder, "Are they vo-bb?

September Day also writes on the VO-BB: I talked to Caryn on the phone!!! We're taking baby steps into actually getting into the same room with a fellow VO
The hotel is lovely and posh, the shuttle was fast and clean, and LAX
is soooo tiny and easy to navigate! Can't wait to meet you guys!

Thankyou Deirdre Cooper for allowing me to excerpt these two posts from your fantastic Voice-Over community the VO-BB!!!  We are sooooooo going to miss you at this year's event!

Penny Abshire, James Alburger and others are also arriving today.  I'm about 12 hours away myself, and I know Bob Souer and his son Eric have already arrived today as well for the Dan O'Day conference as well as VOICE.

VOICE-2008-dates-and-url-tr
A week from Thursday, the big doin’s begin.  VOICE 2008 kicks off at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza with a big red carpet affair.

The event has at it’s core the triple goals of “Education, Technology, Community”.  That pretty well sums up what most hope to get out of the conference, and going by last year’s inaugural affair, they should realize their expectations nicely.

I know this event has not been everyone’s cup of tea, and certainly with the economic situation right now, and budgets being tight, not everyone who wanted to go could go.  But I’ll bet you teacups to toenails 99% of the people who go are going to be walking 2-feet off the ground when they leave Sunday or Monday.

Anyway, what I’m getting to is that if — for whatever reason — you can’t go…you can be a voyeur of the event through this blog.  I plan to take frequent pics AND post to THIS very weblog frequently throughout the day from my SmartPhone.  Yes I can do that.

Now, if you get tired of my perspective, I suggest you browse on over to John Florian’s VoiceOverExtra web-page, ’cause not only is he going to repurpose my stuff on his page, but he’s also going to be taking regular “feeds” from other well-known voice-actors and bloggers Kara Edwards, Bob Souer, and Bobbin Beam.

If you are going, please make sure to find me so we can get pics of everyone’s smiling face!

(BTW, I totally made up the ‘teacups to toenails’ thing)

What is just compensation for professional coaching?30381214

98% of the time, there’s no issue.  Good voice acting coaches typically state their fees and earn them.

But the VOICE 2007/2008 set-up is prompting some worthy discussion of the other 2% of the time…and that discussion spilled over into some online discussion groups.

‘Hope all those involved don’t mind that I excerpt the essentials without naming names here.

…until the VOICE 2008 extravaganza at LA’s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.  VOICE-2008-dates-and-url-tr
The deadline is passed for that great room rate…unless you call today.  They might still let you have that super-low negotiated rate.

The other big deadline coming up is July 31st.  General admission to the event goes above the $597 rate after that day.  There are single-day passes, and even a pass for hangin’ out in just the exhibitor’s area if you want.

This is shaping up to be THE premiere VO event for the year.  The list of presenters is off-the-charts, and special visitors and unannounced special guests will blow your sox off!  Some mighty big names are finding out about this thing, and are asking to come on board.

Any questions….call me 702.610.6288.  I’m offering a ride from the airport to the hotel if you call me to pre-arrange.  I’ll be driving in from Vegas, so I’ll have wheels.

I know budgets are tight, but some flights are very affordable, and when you compare dollar-for-dollar what you’ll get here against a weekend with only ONE of these presenters in their own workshop…the value is incomparable.

I’ll get off my soapbox now… just hope to see you there. Lots of fun stuff planned!

…uh, the room rate, that is, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza (BTW, how many names does a hotel need, anyway?) for the VOICE 2008 event.

If you can sign-up in the next day (before the 10th) the rate is $169 single-occupancy.

Hello?  This is the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza!  That’s an incredible room-rate!  And if I haven’t mentioned it before…. you will do more for your voice-over career just hanging out in hallways during this conference, than you ever would sitting at home, WISHING you had come.

…until until the Red Carpet Networking Event kicking off VOICE 2008.

I’ve said it before, I gladly shill for this event, ’cause it’s probably the best bang for the buck in all of VO-coaching-dom.

There are lots of other reasons too:

* LA proudly boasts more acting coaches per capita than anywhere else in the world, many of whom have signed up to do sessions.
* Proven track record.  VOICE 2007 sent everyone home with more tools to build their business than you local plumber has in his truck.
* The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is gorgeous and organizers have negotiated an unbelievable rate for rooms if you reserve by July 10th.
* I’ll be your Host.

OK, that last reason is dubious — but seriously, people…just hanging around in the hallways at VOICE 2008 will bring your more networking value than you’ll get trying to work your FaceBook account for a month.

Yes, it’s a long trip if you live anywhere East of Denver.  Yes, times are tough, and the budget is tight.  But if you do the math, there is seriously no better deal ANYWHERE for getting knowledge, finding community, and understanding technology in the voice over business than VOICE 2008.

Click HERE for more information.  Call me personally at 702.610.6288 if you have questions.

My friend Bob Souer came smack up against a quandary some months ago: VOICE-2008-dates-and-url-tr
attend the Dan O’Day Radio Summit, or the VOICE 2008 conference — both being held in the same town at roughly the same time.

His decision below, along with a wonderful offer for anyone else caught in the same bind.

43 days until VOICE 2008 attendees begin to congregate at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.  That's gonna fly by, believe me!

And still, new things are being added all the time, like the Tech Talk Terrace.  Look below the fold, here, to see that, and some other recent announcements from the organizers.
