You know at least once a month, I’ll post this link and encourage you to slip on over to EQ Magazine‘s uber-browser-friendly online publication.
Not only is it fun to flip the virtual pages, but the content itself is top-notch. Sure, it’s mostly written for people who actually know what VST stands for, and can describe the difference in polarity fields for the various types of condenser mics…but for the rest of us, there is a lot left that’s actually quite applicable to our VO indutry.
This month, for instance…besides having a fetching picture of Cheryl Crow on the cover, you’ll find articles like: ”Give Your Mixes More Headroom”, and “8 Questions That Can Save Your Sessions”. The publication favors the music industry, but applies to us too. Even the ads are great.
Give it a look-see, and you will find it thoroughly engaging. I promise. CLICK.

This most excellent online offering is a must-read for anyone interested in making their technical audio expertise better.
The articles, the how-to guides, even the ads are the best in the business.
For instance, this month’s publication has “Pro Tools 8 Mixing Tips and Tricks” and that’s just for starters.
This publication is for an audience of studio engineers, audiophiles, serious musicians, and sound techno-wizards, but you can’t help but learn lots by thumbing – virtually – through their pages.
Click HERE or on the graphic above to go to the cover page. Bring your cursor to the bottom of the screen to bring up a pop-up navigation bar.
Enjoy!

You’ll always find a link to this online publication here on my blog, as soon as I get notification that it’s out.
I’ve never seen as slick an online publication as this magazine…and that’s aside from all the kick-butt content it has.
EQ Magazine is for the audiophile, the studio engineer, the musician crazed by getting the perfect sound…so it leans in the direction of technical audio lingo…but the articles are spot-on. This month: tips on using Pro-Tools 8, and Cakewalk Sonar 8.5, along with other great equipment critiques and even the ads are worth a gander.
Check it out HERE.

My favorite online publication for content and display ease-of-use is here for November.
EQ magazine is for musicians, audio engineers, music electronica gearheads and more…but it’s also for us VO peeps too.
Great articles in this issue about Cakewalk Sonar, and Ableton Live 8.
And as I always say about EQ…just reading the ads alone is worth it!

Regular readers of this blog know how enamored I am of the online publication from EQ magazine.
Now, the October edition is out.
Sure, there’s lots here that doesn’t speak directly to the voice actor, and yet, there is much to be learned, too, from the audio engineers, producers, and musicians who populate this publication.
As I always say…Heck, even the ads are edifying!

This marks 800 posts.
…that seems like a lot, but what I know that you don’t know, is how many got away from me, all the juicy articles I wanted to post but didn’t, the scads of great ideas for blogging that I’ve yet to write.
When I think about all that…I know I’m still in it for the long run, and thanks for your support.
ON TO THE GOOD STUFF:
The September Edition of EQ Magazine Online is out!
Articles on Steinberg Cubase, Cakewalk Sonar…plus reviews on FocusRite Sapphire 24, Lexicon PCH96, and the Electro-Voice PL Series of mics.
I’ve said this before: I love this publication!

‘Always chock-full of great tips, ideas, articles, and trends…EQ Magazine is one of the best deals around.
I always add this caveat: EQ Mag Online is designed for musicians, audio engineers, studio operations, and those with a techie bent. HOWEVER, the focus of this magazine is so close to the periphery of what we do in VO, that you can’t help but learn a lot. The ads alone would be worth it.
Check out this title for one of August’s articles: “6 Secrets of In-Your-Face Vocals”.

The latest digital edition of EQ Magazine is out, and I again stress what a cool online tool nxtbook.com has put together for reading an online zine.
This is not just another web-page with information in a column format and then CALLED a Zine or a Magazine by its authors.
This looks like a magazine. You click on titles on the cover, and it takes you inside. You can flip through the pages one at a time. There are a host of other methods for searching, reading, and browsing the actual magazine, as if it were in your hands.
EQ magazine itself is mostly designed with production houses, producers, musicians, and studio managers in mind, but as I've mentioned before…much of what you'll read is applicable to voice-actors. Many of the articles are reviews of pre-amps, mics, and other electronic hardware.
Give it a gander, and I think you'll come away with something useful.

You hear about E-Magazines…or E-Zines…but when you get to the site, it pretty much looks like another website pathetically dressed up with some journalistic columns or some other mark of a print publication.
EQ’s new online edition changes all that. It really has the look and feel of its print edition. You see the front cover, click on a headline, and you’re taken to the article inside, or you can go to the articles from the table of contents, or just page through one by one, like you would the real paper thing…do searches, and see thumbnails, zoom, send, bookmark, take notes, print, link…nice!
Maybe you’ve seen something like this. I haven’t.
The media partner in this is nxtbook.com which claims to "…optimize print materials for use on the Web…"
In this issue, a critique of the Studio Projects CS5 mic, and the Art TubeFire 8 …among other articles you’ll find useful as a voice-artist. Keep in mind EQ is probably more geared for musicians, and studio producers…but much of the same equipment and techniques featured in EQ translate well to voice-over, and I’ve quoted them extensively in past blogs.
I’m a subscriber, so I hope this link works for you, too…and I hope I’m not breaking some copyright or subscriber agreement by linking, cause I really want you to see this.
This is a great idea done well.
Click HERE or on the pic above to see what I’m ranting about.
