Coffee with CourVO

Fellow VO Social Media geeks Terry Daniel and Trish Basanyi several weeks ago resurrected their highly-successful VO podcast series, and renamed it “Voice Over Cafe”.

I was lucky enough to be 3rd on their list of guests, and recorded with them the other day.

We talked a lot about World-Voices.org and the many issues surrounding it — namely the need for, and the help we’re getting in spades to establish a true VO Guild of voice actors and the standards we hope to be able to develop in technical criteria and codes of best practice for the voiceover community.

Here’s the link to our podcasat:  http://epodcastnetwork.com/voice-over-cafe-episode-3/

Trish and Terry are both my partners in a presentation on the topic of Social Media at VOICE2012 at Disneyland next month.  We’ll be covering an all-encompassing view of the top social networking platforms; what it takes to get noticed, and get jobs IN those networks.

Additionally, I’m hosting my own webinar on the topic of Social Media, Saturday 5/19/12 Noon PST for Edge Studio.  Here’s the link to sign-up: http://www.edgestudio.com/social-media-marketing-for-voice-over.

PodCast: LinkedIn Tips

Sometimes I forget that Las Vegas is a hotbed for Social Media activity, consistently ranking among top cities for participation, engagement, and innovation.

Small wonder, then, that I’d find Lindsay Metter in the mix with a high profile, and a pocket full of useful advice.

Lindsay is the force behind Blue Luna Marketing.

Subscribe to her site, her newsletter, or friend her on FaceBook, and you’ll see how prolific she is, utilizing many of the great marketing techniques that elevates her to the level of “pro” in my book.

So I asked Lindsay if she’d be willing to do a Skype interview with me on one of the least-understood Social Networks:  LinkedIn.

She readily agreed, and the result is below…slightly over 15 mins.  We cover some of the basics of setting up your profile, and a few search tips among many other topics,

If you like what you hear, please give Lindsay a shout by visiting her website, Blue Luna Marketing.

Thanks, Lindsay!

Social Media Podcast on Voices.com Expert Episode

Voices.com offers among it’s services, a busy site of providing information called: the VoiceOver Expert Series.  Various contributors provide a Podcast recording that is then posted on the Voices.com site for all to hear.

Today, a recording that I did with Voice Actor Terry Daniel is now posted.  Since Terry and I are both Social Media geeks, we had no trouble filling about 15 minutes with chatter about the latest trends online that you may want to consider…many of which constitute free marketing tools for your voice over business.

You can find the VoiceOver Expert recording with Terry and me on the Voices.com site.

Nice going Terry!

Expanding the Brand

The whole gist of this social networking gig is to raise the level of awareness of your BRAND on the internet.

It’s like swimming upstream most of the time, but every once in a while, you get a nod, and it feels good.

pozadzidesJohn Pozadzides is a self-made-millionaire in his 30’s who has the luxury of handing out those nods.

He’s one of the founders of Woopra and many other Web2.0 achievements, but maybe is best known today as the author of ONE MAN’S BLOG.  (BTW, John is in Las Vegas as we speak for a PhotoShop convention).

For some unknown reason, I’ve managed to land on John’s good side, and he invited me to come onto his internet radio show: WealthNation.fm.  While I don’t think of myself as wealthy, I was honored to be part of a conversation with John and his cohorts on their show a couple of weeks ago.

We talked about branding, and voice-acting, and entrepreneurship, and being on TV, and so forth.  You may actually enjoy listening to it….or not.

Regardless, HERE is the link.  For all the interview is NOT…it IS another opportunity to further my brand in the matrix.

PodWorx

Podworx
Scott Whitney is a smart guy.  He jumped on the Podcasting juggernaut when it first got big; then had the sense, the chutzpah, and the know-how to survive the downturn.

Now he's riding the next wave of podcast popularity with his turn-key PodWorx business.

I visited with Scott at his PodWorx headquarters right here in Las Vegas (a nicely-equipped office in his own home).  Although most of his clients are elsewhere, that's the beauty of podcasting and freelancing — no ties to legacy workplace traditions!

ScottAndDaveCourvoisier_thumb
Scott's success with podcasting belies his business and marketing savvy, though — which is why just being around him, I may soak up some pointers through osmosis.

As I've often mentioned in this blog, voice-acting is a balanced blend of tech and talent…neither of which add up to a hill of beans if you can't market your product effectively.

Scott is always recreating and improving his brand… launching into a new direction even as we speak (er…uh, write).

Thanks, Scott for giving of your time and patience with my questions…and for blogging about our visit.  You can see for yourself at Scott's "LivingInLasVegas" blog.  Click HERE.

Courvo/Kukral Podcast

Bizwebcoach
Yesterday, I mentioned about James Kukral, TheBizWebCoach…and his rebranded website and services offering.

I've just noticed that he finally posted a podcast I did with him about a month ago.  We talked about a lot of things during the session, but mostly touching on entrepreneurship, taking initiative to follow your passion, and some of the ins and outs of choosing freelance voice-acting as a independent business.

Click to hear the podcast.

Thanks, Jim!

Platform Bias

Fellow VO-BB‘er Jeffrey Kafer nails down a cool interview with voice-actor Bob Bergen — the 4th in a series about recent voice acting for video games.

Platform Biased appeals to an audience of gamers, mostly…an area more and more being noticed by voice-actors, as they apply pressure for gaming developers to use more professional voice talent for their characters.

Kafer is a Software Development Engineer
in Test at Microsoft Game Studios, and a working voice-artist.

You can also see more on this at VoiceOverTimes.
