A Note About Thank You Notes

This blog is to remind me to say thank you.

Actually, I love to say thank you, especially to my clients…and I do it often.  But I’ve never sent a physical thank you note to a client in my life.

That’s gotta change.

I figure there’s one rule:  Keep it simple and sincere.  No ulterior motives. No biz card included. No upsell implied.

It might not even hurt to include a small gift, like a Starbucks card…but no branding elements.

What to say?  Well, there are a lot of thoughts about that, and below is a list of some of the best suggestions I’ve been able to find on the subject.  Glean what you can, but remember, the best approach is simple and sincere…no ulterior motives.  Thank you is thank you.

Whirlwind

There is no one to blame but me for the way my life is:  BUSY!

4 days in LA for VOICE2010, 2 days back to work at my TV job, including an intense 2.5 hours on-air live for the Primary Election’ then a blessed 5 days vacation with family near Tahoe.

But you know what returning from vacation means:  Yup!…a pile of work, emails, bills, auditions, and phone calls.

In case you’re still catching up to all the wealth of data that came out of the event, you might want to visit Connie Terwilliger’s excellent summary blogs HERE.

THIS is another fine resource of material, pics and observations of the event, courtesy of ace marketing an voiceover talent Peter O’Connell.

Also, the VoiceOverXtra site puts together a host of blog articles (including this one) for a roundhouse summary of the event.

And surprisingly, I have not yet mentioned in this blog of my endeavour to help Bob Bergen in his desire to see Legendary Voice Actor June Foray get respect.  We’re seeking a place for the still-vibrant 92-year-old in an upcoming SONY feature film on the Smurfs.  June was the original Jokey Smurf, and that’s aside from her well-known role as  Rocky the Squirrel in the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, and countless other roles in cartoons and animation.  So far, she hasn’t even been approached for so much as a token line in the movie.

Please see THIS FACEBOOK PAGE, and click “LIKE” at the top to lend your support to a grass-roots effort to get SMURF JUSTICE FOR JUNE FORAY.

Finally…don’t forget to visit the SocialMediaVO.com site, as we are updating it regularly, and filling it with loads of info that VO’s can use in their social marketing efforts.

Have a great week!

The Greatest Gratefulness…

handshake…for this day is that of the relationship I have with you.

In my book, this is the meaning of life.  In the beginning God was in a relationship (see Gen 1:26).  Relationship is what he most desires of us, and for each other.

Relationship fulfills us, motivates us, completes, enriches and energizes us.

Without it, we’re alone and lonely.

So, today, I’m grateful for YOU.

Copy Catting?

Thanks to my fellow Vegas VO friend Garry O’Neal for this tip. It was posted in an online forum for Voice Over artists

Two sites, really, and neither of them have a whole lot to do with VO directly, but they may be handy for you bloggers…or people who like to keep track of where their content ends up.

CopyScape helps you defend your site against plagiarism.

The WayBack Machine is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form.

A brief discussion flared-up on the forum after Garry’s post about whether ANY content can be protected anymore, and even IF you were to pursue a lawsuit against the alleged offenders, whether it would be worth the investment, as many of the accused are not worth “two nickels to rub together”.

I’ll not weigh in one way or the other, but I’ll be checking out these sites just for the sheer geekiness of what they offer.

V123 Folo

Nothing seems to draw attention in the VO/VA world like just a little transparent outrage.  Or maybe it's just a shared disgust at V123's obvious technical savvy married to a dismal customer relations model.

My blog had one of it's highest readership days EVER Wednesday.  I'd like to thank those of you who are regulars, and those who come and go on occasion.  Your support of my frustration and quandary mean more to me than you know.

I'd like to draw special attention to the people who commented on yesterday's blog, and even a couple of people who called.

Of note:  Bog Bergen, Bob Souer, Deb Munro, Rowell Gorman, CC Petersen, Peter O'Connell, Arlene Kahn, and Michael Rankin.

Vo-bbCan I just say what an unbelievably stellar cast of characters exist on the VO-BB as well?  If you aspire to be a VO/VA pro, if you are a pro, if you are in any way rub up agaisnt this business, you really should be part of this zany, talented, erudite, off-kilter, and fun community of voice artists.  I salute you every one!

ONWARD…you may notice I've removed the V123 badge off my sidebar just to the right.
