…I was hatching a crazy idea to declare September “NATIONAL VOICE OVER APPRECIATION MONTH”.

You’ll notice, I didn’t give myself much time.

With the urging and help of VO Pro Peter O’Connell and the graphics savvy of Amy Snively, I quickly cobbled together some resources, a little assistance from my VO friends, and the whole enterprise gained some momentum.

The remarkable result was an enthusiastic response that lasted a whole month, prompted a busy website, and led to several compilation :30 and :60 PSA’s.  Remember?

That website (well, most of it) can still be found at http://www.nationalvoiceovermonth.com.  There, you’ll also find the compilation spots.  They’re really good, if you haven’t heard them in a while…or not at all.

You’d think with a whole year to plan a sequel, I’d be able to build the Titanic.  That wasn’t the case, necessarily.  A few people had…well…reservations about the need for such a “holiday”.  A number of seasoned pros made valuable suggestions, and I listened.  I listened and I thought.  I listened and I thought, and I asked for ideas.

Finally, frozen by indecision, I just began to move forward with…something.  I grabbed a domain name…played with some designs, concepts, configurations, and sheesh…it all started coming together.

In the coming days, I’ll be revealing this new campaign.  It’ll have a different look, theme, concept, logo, website, outlook, and result.

I’ll say this much…it’ll be interactive, community building, social, and involve prizes.

There.  I’ve already said too much.

Regardless, I hope you’ll continue to watch here for updates and launch information.

Oh, and if you didn’t get the chance, here are the PSA’s from last year:

NVOM Redux

Mentor, friend, VO talent, leprechaun, and marketing genius — Peter O’Connell — has edited together a cool reprise of  the month that was: September — National Voice Over Month.

He called me one day from one of his whirlwind on-the-road trips to share,  and then he just did it.

Absolutely worth checking out.  You can see it below, but please visit Peter’s Blog, VoxMarketising.com to get the whole story and roster.

Thanks, Peter…you make us all look good!

Ode to NVOM

Welcome to October, and the big dash to Christmas!

….but…ah…ah…will you indulge me one last vestige of the big month that just passed?

September as National Voice Over Month defined my life for 30 days.  It was conceived in haste, born with big support, sustained with stubbornness, and sometimes ridiculed.  Not a day went by that I didn’t add a logo, mark something on the calendar, or link to a new article.

I’d say 98.5% of the response was great, sometimes giddy…even gushing.

I’ll not start listing those who helped…they’re on the NVOM site, and I’m indebted to them all.  YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

Many ideas are being floated for 2011, and all suggestions are welcome.

But don’t think I’m gonna blog this swan-song without a decent salute.  Below is the final compilation PSA (:60) written by Lee Gordon.

Many professional voices lent an aural hand in making these spots work.  On this spot:  Lee Gordon starts and ends it.  In between, you’ll hear Melissa Exelberth, Dan Roberts, Trish Basanyi, Mike Coon, Liz de Nesnera, Jeff Kaylor, Melanie Haynes, Wayne Edwards, Diane Havens, David Houston, CC Petersen, George Washington III, Andy Boyns, Daniel Wallace, Jodi Krangle, Rowell Gormon, Bill Sleeper, Edo Peters, and Dave Courvoisier.

Have a listen, and hoist one this weekend for the month that was!…NVOM 2010…the start of something big!

NVOM Latin Style!

National Voice Over Month just flew by!  Only days left, and yet there’s plenty of steam in the old gal!

I’m still adding to the NVOM home page, the logos of talent who want to show their support, and in  the last 24 hours had an incredible addition to the NVOM site.

Pablo Hernandez of Puerto Rico has duplicated our USA compilation PSA effort with Spanish voices from 4 different Spanish-speaking countries!

Here’s the list of talents who contributed in a quote from his email to me:  “…It was a little bit hard to find the people, but it finally paid off. I already posted a YouTube video with the NVOM logo and and the audio of the Spanish PSA. I also attached to this e-mail the video file I posted to YouTube and by extention, to Facebook. I hope you like it, Dave. It’s been a real pleasure to contribute to this project. The names of the contributing voice artists are: Pablo Hernandez (Puerto Rico), Fabián Nuñez (Argentina), Ruth Mannarini (Paraguay), Julieta Inés Polverari (Argentina), Pablo Matus (Argentina), René Figueroa (Colombia) and Roger Berrio (Colombia). Again, thanks so much for this opportunity…”

Please take a listen on the flash player below, and thanks again Pablo, and everybody who has helped!

Take Two – Call for Voices

Your voice.  I need it.

I’m working on making this National Voice Over Month PSA the best it can be, and the more voices I have…the better.

See THIS previous blog for instructions, and links to the copy.

I’m particularly missing enough MALE voices for Peter O’Connell’s script.  So, choose to record that one, and  maybe one or more of the other, shorter scripts, and send ‘em on over to me at [email protected]  I’d like to get it done in time to premiere it at FaffCon, and post it on the NVOM website before I leave Saturday.

All the specs are in THIS aforementioned article with links and instructions.

No. There’s no renumeration in greenbacks here, but you have the assurance that your voice goes into the best darn compilation PSA for all time (and maybe the first-ever) promoting our business.

By the end of the day today, Wed., 9-8-10 would be great…maybe not realistic, but great.

Those of you who have already submitted…thanks for your EXCELLENT work!  This is so much fun!

Call for Voices

The response to National Voice Over Month is impressive.  We’ve clearly touched a need, or at least a nerve in the VO community with this idea.

But let’s not let down our energy now that the first blush is past.

Many have offered to lend their talents to a couple of collaborative PSA’s I’m piecing together from those who answer the call.

If you’d like to participate, please read below the posting I made to several members of the VO-BB who have already volunteered to read.

The NVOM website is growing by the day, please check in and check it out!

Thanks!

Great NVOM Article

Dan Roberts sent me the NVOM-inspired article (posted below) that he wrote.

Aside from being a voice-actor, Dan’s a copywriter, and it shows in his authorship.

This article is free for re-distribution on Dan’s permission, and aside from copying it below, you can find the download HERE.

Thanks, Dan…great thoughts!

National Voice Over Month (NVOM) in YOUR Country

Are you a voice actor in some other nation than the USA?

Send me a .jpg or .png of your country’s flag so we can join with you as you celebrate National Voice Over Month in YOUR nation.  We’ll post it prominently on the front page.

Also, please note our explanation of NVOM is now presented in Spanish on the NVOM site.

I’ve revamped the Calendar Page to reveal the different VO activities and notes about NVOM.  Got an event to post there?  Send it to me at [email protected]

Finally…to see how a smart VO takes advantage of the many opportunities to extend your brand into this event, and to your advantage, read Peter O’Connell’s Blog today.  Nice, Peter!
