Where to Find Some Cash (man)

Marccashman
Marc Cashman was one of the more prolific contributors to the recent VOICE 2008 event.  The guy was everywhere!

It's really no different than his presence in the world of VO, esp. in LA.  Producer, writer, director, casting agent, voice artist, and voice coach, Cashman brings a world of experience to the table.

Read below the fold to see his response to requests for more access to the information he churns out of his studio.

Don Update

Paul Pape appeared twice in the VOICE 2008 event…he's an ADR whiz, and veteran of most all forms of Voice Acting.  He's also a close and long-time friend of Don LaFontaine.  Below is his latest update on Don LaFontaine….followed by a thankyou letter from Don's wife, Nita.

In Case You Haven’t Heard…

Don lafontaine

Don LaFontaine is in a bad way.  I picked up the following e-mail from the Yahoo VO forum group, and it apparently was generated originally at VoiceOverUniverse:

I have received email from George Whittman and Beau Weaver regarding Don LaFontaine's health. They've both received letters from Don's wife, Nita... Don is NOT doing well at all.

The letter reads...

Dear friends and family,

I need you help and I'm reaching out to all of you. My wonderful husband is in critical condition at Cedar Sinai hospital; a blood clot is lodged in his lung and he is fighting for his life. This happened on Saturday after I'd taken him in for shortness of breath on Friday. He was doing very well and I left him talking and being funny on Friday evening. Without all the details, I got a call on Saturday morning as I was heading there to visit. There has been some lovely improvement yesterday but he is very sick right now. We need your concentrated prayers! Have your churches synagogues, temples send out prayers for Don's healing and wellness. Light a candle, chant, whatever you do to send that loving energy and light to him, I would appreciate. And save a little for the girls and me. We have had small miracles already and if we all shout up to God collectively, I know how powerful that can be. He is fighting and we all are fighting with him. He is strong and is a warrior so I thank you in advance for your prayers, good wishes and kindness on behalf of my family.

With a hopeful heart,

Nita and family

I don't think this is a hoax.  Let's send him all our positive prayers and energy.

27 Days…Give or Take…

…until the VOICE 2008 extravaganza at LA’s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.  VOICE-2008-dates-and-url-tr
The deadline is passed for that great room rate…unless you call today.  They might still let you have that super-low negotiated rate.

The other big deadline coming up is July 31st.  General admission to the event goes above the $597 rate after that day.  There are single-day passes, and even a pass for hangin’ out in just the exhibitor’s area if you want.

This is shaping up to be THE premiere VO event for the year.  The list of presenters is off-the-charts, and special visitors and unannounced special guests will blow your sox off!  Some mighty big names are finding out about this thing, and are asking to come on board.

Any questions….call me 702.610.6288.  I’m offering a ride from the airport to the hotel if you call me to pre-arrange.  I’ll be driving in from Vegas, so I’ll have wheels.

I know budgets are tight, but some flights are very affordable, and when you compare dollar-for-dollar what you’ll get here against a weekend with only ONE of these presenters in their own workshop…the value is incomparable.

I’ll get off my soapbox now… just hope to see you there. Lots of fun stuff planned!

E-Learning Voices…

…..is up and running.Banner1

Commercial Voices' Rick Gordon, and Harlan Hogan (who needs no reference whatsoever) some months ago approached a number of voice actors to participate in a new endeavour.

Their idea was to capitalize on a growing need for professional voices in the exploding field of e-learning.  I was honored to be included as a founding member, along with a sterling list of highly-qualified candidates.

Now…after a lot of design work, recruiting, organizing, choosing a business model, marketing, and other untold details, E-learningvoices is a reality.  I definitely think its time has come. Thanks Rick and Harlan for having that vision.

….and spread the word, willya?

Unexpected Benefits

How wonderful to throw yourself into a new venture — keeping to your goal and your vision — only to find unintended blessings along the way.

When I began my quest to start my own business, build on my voice talent, and reach out to the community of other freelancers, I found only encouragement, support, and helpful strangers…who, in short order became true friends, even though they may be sight unseen.

I’d like to call myself lucky, but I think it’s more a function of choosing the place I’m supposed to be, among those who share a common vision, and realize they can’t do it alone.  I know I can’t do it alone, and am thankful for the Frank Fredericks, the Bob Souers, the DB Coopers, the Chris Wagners, Liz de Nesneras, the Barbara Winters, and John McClains of the world.

So I raise a glass to those who have mentored, encouraged, and supported me selflessly along the way.  I could not nearly have gotten this far without you.  This goes especially for everybody who has interacted with me on the VO-BB…surely those who dwell in the virtual land of Cooper are a blessing to each other.

Appreciatively,

Yin & Yang

Most of Sunday afternoon, I was walking about a foot off the ground.

Ya see, my middle daughter…the soccer star…captain of her team of 16-yr-old warriors, traveled to Reno, and captured the State Cup in a tough showdown.  They became the state champs, defeating their nemesis 1-0.  They beat the team that had beaten THEM in the championship game the last two years.  Sweet victory!

Here are some pics from the frenzied moments after the win:

Now, here’s the yang:

Less than 24 hours later, my daughters’ last remaining grandparent went to find her maker.  87-yr-old Mae Holt (whom I’ve blogged about before here)…WWII Army Nurse, grandmother to 10, and a true matriarch…left us.

Now I’ve got to pack up that triumphant athlete, her two sisters, and some deep sorrow to travel to Cape Girardeau, MO and do our duty.  I’ll be delivering the eulogy.  Luckily my bosses "get it"…and gave me the time off (in the middle of ratings, no less).

I’ve said it before, and it bears repeating.  "LIFE JUST KEEPS COMIN’ AT YA!"

iZimundi

Yeah….iZimundi.  ‘Have no idea what it means or how to say it….but when I got an e-mail to sign-up for this "Language and Communications Marketplace", I figured I’d give it a look-see.

I’m pretty sure it’s French-based.  I messed-up filling in one of the dialogue boxes, and got an error message in French.  Not that that’s a bad thing…just not, er…uh….local.

At this point, you can register, and fill in your profile, but that’s about it.  Their FAQ’s aren’t even up yet.  It claims to be a place where freelancers can bid on jobs.  Well, we know how THAT goes, don’t we?

Seriously, this is a communications marketplace wannabe website that is virtually an open shell right now.  Who knows, maybe it’ll be wildly successful.  Like Voice Artistes.

(what?… you think I’m kidding?!)

Moto-Frank

My friend and mentor, Frank Frederick will be here in Vegas in early May to voice a big SuperCross racing event for CBS.  This is his 2nd time, I believe, to do the show, and that means CBS likes his style.  I do too, and am looking forward to being with him while he’s here.

For more info on his participation in this event, please click HERE for a VoiceOverTimes.com article.
