ISDN Dropped

On my Voice-Over Friends Group on FaceBook, Arlene Cooke points to a NY Times article discussing a list of certain words that are being cycled OUT of the Times’ style book, and apparently the acronym ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is one of them.

‘Just another reason never to read the NYT in my book.

But in case you’d like to see their reasoning, you can read The Latest in Style by Philip Corbett here.

BTW, ISDN never caught-on here as it has in Europe, where it’s still a mainstay in most systems.  For more about ISDN, read any of the many articles in this blog on the subject, by enterng the search string ISDN in the dialogue box at the top right of this page.

  1. Like we heard….as long as the banks use their ISDN lines to transmit all their daily deposits, ISDN is here to stay for a long time. Add in radio stations, TV stations, recording studios, voice talents….etc…

  2. Just got a DBX 286A Microphone Preamp/Processor off of eBay for $91.00. I read some good things about it online (Ty Ford), and took a chance since it was such a good deal. I really needed another clean preamp for my music but I also wanted to pit it against my Symetrix 528e for voice-over work. This puppy, now discontinued but which sold for $209 new, sounds better than the $500+ 528e. The 286A’s preamp has more fidelity than the 528e. The compressor is almost transparent. And I always thought the gate was one of the best features of the 528e, but the 286A’s is better. I’ll admit that I missed the fact that there’s no traditional EQ until I opened the box (I mean, it’s a channel strip–they ALWAYS have EQ), but the adjustable bass and high-end enhancement sound great in moderation and are really all you need. There’s an insert if you want to add an outboard EQ. I likee! You might too.
