All the trending polls are showing email taking a back seat to FaceBook, Twitter, texting, and…sheesh, I dunno, Twinkle, I guess…
I still see a semi-truck-full of email every day, though, and I suspect the older set is certainly on-board with that. The Beloit College Mindset list stated that 2014 grads think email is “…just too slow…”. But I still see email as the 800 lb. gorilla in the communication room. (See “Ultimate Social Media Tool“)
If you use Gmail (and you should), Google has released a feature called “Priority Inbox” that will change the way you use Gmail. I know, I know….they said that about Google Wave, but Priority Inbox really will, because: it makes sense, it’s easy, and it’s seamless.
If you haven’t already, look along the top menu of your Gmail for a note to “click here to try Priority Inbox” (paraphrased). When you click it, you’ll launch into the quick and easy process of learning how it all works, and this is where the seamless part comes in. If you just go with the default settings Gmail sets for you, you’ll see an immediate division of your emails. As you go along, you can “train” the program as to what’s important to you and what’s not. The important stuff will always rise to the top, and the rest shows up below that.
If you don’t like it, you can always go back to the configuration you were using before….in fact, that option never disappears from your left-side menu.
I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the previous configuration.
These productivity tools save time in the end. I dunno about you, but my schedule is maxxed, and a few minutes saved here and there, gives me more time to work on the mic in my studio.

Dave,
As always, you lead and take the fear out of tech for me.
