Great point, Chris…thanks for making it. A definition is in order…or maybe an analogy.

For instance, I’m not accredited as a “journalist” although I’ve supposedly been doing it for 30 years. There IS no accreditation for journalism…unlike welders, bricklayers, nurses, CPA’s or marriage counselors. I would dearly welcome some sort of legitimacy in journalism of that order.

In that sense, what you’ve been doing in voice acting all these years is certainly valid and worthwhile and true… but is it legitimate in same way other professions quantify their expertise? No.

So legitimate in my eyes, and for the purpose of this argument means a standardization of minimum and quantifiable facility within a certain area of expertise.

However, I could’ve easily have said “…that is legitimizing EVEN MORE the business of voice acting…” and saved a lot of back-pedaling here.

I take an exception to your post. It may be a small thing, but when you say legitimize the business of voice acting in meaningful ways it totally rubs me the wrong way. I can’t put my finger on it, but it makes me feel that the business of voice acting is not legit? What have I been doing since 1987 then… shoot, I’m not legit. I can never again do the ‘too legit to quit’ dance again.

If you are going to make a statement like that, I would love to read some detail on what is not legit about it.
