Expanding the Brand

The whole gist of this social networking gig is to raise the level of awareness of your BRAND on the internet.

It’s like swimming upstream most of the time, but every once in a while, you get a nod, and it feels good.

pozadzidesJohn Pozadzides is a self-made-millionaire in his 30’s who has the luxury of handing out those nods.

He’s one of the founders of Woopra and many other Web2.0 achievements, but maybe is best known today as the author of ONE MAN’S BLOG.  (BTW, John is in Las Vegas as we speak for a PhotoShop convention).

For some unknown reason, I’ve managed to land on John’s good side, and he invited me to come onto his internet radio show: WealthNation.fm.  While I don’t think of myself as wealthy, I was honored to be part of a conversation with John and his cohorts on their show a couple of weeks ago.

We talked about branding, and voice-acting, and entrepreneurship, and being on TV, and so forth.  You may actually enjoy listening to it….or not.

Regardless, HERE is the link.  For all the interview is NOT…it IS another opportunity to further my brand in the matrix.

Google Wave Hits Today

google_wave_logo ‘Rather unfortunate that on the day of the launch of Google’s newest “WoW” product – Google WAVE — thousands of South Pacific Islanders are struggling to recover from a massive Tsunami generated by an 8.3 magnitude underwater earthquake.  I don’t think Google is THAT self-serving…nor are they capable of such tectonic-plate machinations.

Only 100,000 lucky (unlucky?) souls will get the chance to try this Beta release beginning today.  Twitter is aflutter with people trolling about for an invitation.  ‘Not likely that anyone who was actually picked would give up their chosen status, though.

Google is variously touted as the next-generation communication tool – a mashup of email, real-time IM’s, pictures, and threads, all in a one-interface-does-all program.

Time will tell, I suppose…and uh…I don’t suppose…er….ah… you have an invitation you’d like to fork over, do ya?

A New VO Toy!

ilvow Our voice-acting friend from across the Atlantic – Mahmoud Taji – has been busy again, and this time writes to share a new idea he has for bringing the VO community to one place to share – pretty much anything!

It’s called I Love Voice Over Work or ILVOW.  The site reminds me a lot of Twitter, where you just drop in a few words, and your comments show up in a timeline with everyone elses.  You can open an account for free, fill out a profile, upload an avatar and go to town!

The link to ILVOW is HERE.

Read Taji’s blog explaining his new service HERE.

Thanks, Taji, for leltting us know…I’m already registered!

DisQus ‘n’ Amplatz

disqus Which is to say…dis ‘n’ dat.

If you are a person who often comments on others’ blogs, you may enjoy the online site called DISQUS.  Disqus organizes your trail of comments, and even pops up a dialog when you comment that asks if you want to send your comment to any of your other favorite social networking sites.  Others may find it a total waste of time, but disqus seems to be making its mark…I’m seeing the disqus logo on more an more blogs, which means it’s social networking peer sites are recognizing its power.

Amplatz is something totally different.  It’s a proposed Children’s hospital in Minnesota.  The promotional video for the project has just been completed, and guess who voiced it?  Uh-huh.  I thought the video was very well done, and wanted to share.  Let me know what you think.  When you comment.  Use DisQus.

Montana VA Jeff Howell

jeff howell Now why can’t the local TV in Las Vegas choose a voice-actor as the focus of a story?!  (Hmmmm)

KULR-TV in Billings, Montana did…and it’s a fairly representative story of people like….you, maybe…who toil away in a home-built studio, but love the control they have over their career.

See the report HERE, and be sure to click on the link “Watch the Video”.

Cash for Advertising Clunkers

ban ads ‘A pretty engaging read with a convincing argument in an article in AdWeek today.

Here’s a quick excerpt:  “What qualifies as a clunker? The rules and conditions will be posted at adclunkers.gov, but for now it’s worth noting that qualifying clunker practices include, but are not limited to, belching voiceovers that importune one to act in a hurried manner; blaring soundtracks that pay homage to U2, but do not, in fact, pay U2…”

Utterli Social

utterli No, it’s not a misspelling.

Utterli.com is a social networking site that is gaining more popularity…at least in my mind, ‘cause it’s new to me.
Serious journalists intent on mastering the new vagaries and vicissitudes of social media glommed onto Utterli months ago. Yes, glommed…that’s a technical term.

Utterli is similar, I suppose, to Posterous, or Tumblr, or Ping.fm.  Postong to Utterli prompts cross-posts to other social media sites (if configured correctly)…even to your blog.  You can post to it from your phone, from the web, by emailing, and by calling in a voice message… maybe that’s why I like it better than the others…’cause it involves audio.

If you scroll down far enough on this blog home page, on the far right side-bar, you’ll see a spot for my Utters on Utterli. It’s a widget that rotates through my most recent utters.  You can click and listen, or go to my Utterli site, and see more.  There aren’t many right now, ‘cause I’ve only been discovering what it can do, but audio is definitely one of the cool things about Utterli.

I’m seeing a general interest in social networking like never before.  But…the approach is more from the fear that “…if I don’t, I”m gonna be totally left behind…” Not: “…I really find this tool engaging and useful.” See what I mean?

Some of us have to be dragged kicking and screaming into new challenges.  Often it’s a good thing…remember cell-phones when they first came out?  I can recall those who scoffed at them.  Oh, you don’t remember that?  Am I THAT old?
