SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing) has always been the great abyss to me.  How to EVEN find the time to master some of those skills is more than my overloaded schedule can handle.

I’ve engaged some very savvy friends to tweak here ‘n’ there (names provided on request), and have mulled over many an SEO pitch (there’s only a couple of million every day in my mailbox).

GoDaddyI may take another stab at it with GoDaddy.  Probably a few of you use this service to register domains, host your domain, blog, or otherwise manage complex internet tasks.  I like GoDaddy, mostly ’cause when I call for support I get an immediate answer from someone who speaks real old-fashioned North American English (a rarity in this day of out-sourcing).  Oh, and they always solve my issue, too.

Whenever I log onto GoDaddy, I see them adding services, tweaking their interface, and offering new value…in other words, they’re not one to sit on their (ahem) laurels.

Now, they’ve got this new Search Engine Visibility tool (I guess that’d be SEV, wouldn’t it).  At any rate, it seems to be offered as another tool in my account…no charge added-on, and WoW, it’s opened my eyes to some things I could do to get more attention to my main demo site, and hence, hopefully, more traffic and business out of it.

HERE’s the link to a brief explanation of the service.  I don’t think you have to be a customer of GoDaddy to look at this overview.  There’s a lot to digest, here, and I haven’t yet, so I don’t have much more advice to give you, but rest assured, I’ll be spending some time in the next few days, checking it out some more.

One other thing…I’ve blogged about the delightful search engine: SearchMe before.  I liked it’s visual representation of pages, and I applaud any outfit that even thinks of taking on the Google behemoth, merely from a competition-is-healthy standpoint.

Well, SearchMe ran out of funding, and as of yesterday went underground until they can find some more.  If you type <searchme.com> now, you get the Google search page.  HERE is an excellent TechCrunch article on what’s going on with SearchMe.

  • Hey Dave,

Actually, you don’t really need this service too much. I’m not knocking the service, but your site powered by WordPress and configured with Search Engine Optimizing Plugins are already doing the heavy lifting for you!

In fact if you google for Godaddy search engine, you will find this article already in the 3rd position. :)

If you name your articles with titles that include keywords that are important to you, the plugins will do most of the work for you. If you scroll down to the bottom of the screen when you are writing an article you will also notice a section where you can add an article description, keywords and a custom title for the article as well, which can all help a little bit more.

After that the only big thing that you can do is find ways to bring more links pointing to your site or your individual articles.

    :)

    • Brett, Thanks for stopping by… for anyone else reading this, Brett is the guy who conceived, designed and launched my new WordPress blog….

I was thinking of applying this set of tools to my demo site, though, Brett…CourVO.COM…not .biz. Would that be a plus, then, or not?
