15 Secret Celebrity VoiceOvers ….the dailyfill

dailyfillCheck it out… a pretty good online article on ‘THE DAILY FILL‘ revealing whose celebrity voice is on what commercial.

Is there shame in that?  Nah!…it’s just taking bread from the rest of us diligent hard-working mokes trying to ply our trade.

I kid.  Actually, these are hi-profile actors who figured out what great work it is…and they’re getting top-dollar based on their big-screen exposure, even though their names aren’t mentioned nor are their faces shown in the spots.

BingTweets

bingtweetsHave I already blogged about this?

‘Doesn’t matter, it bears repeating.

Microsoft’s recent answser the the search-engine wars (i.e. Kill Google!) had from the start integrated Twitter into its search results.  Now they’re going a step further with BingTweets.

Enter your search string, and you get two results…one from Twitter, the other from Bing.

Click HERE for an excellent article on this from Adam Ostrow on Mashable.

How does this help you with your voice over career?  Tools.  These are tools.  How you use them is up to your creativity.

Zany Script Directions…

cashman….we’ve all seen ‘em. Things you couldn’t make up.  Stuff that doesn’t make sense, and the person who wrote them doesn’t really know what they want either…they just think they have to say SOMETHING.

Voice coach and talent Marc Cashman is the dean of collecting samples of these crazy client directions.  He made a presentation at VOICE 2008 and had us all rolling on the floor.

Now he’s putting out a call for your contribution to the bank of zany script directions.  See his e-mail to me below (including a couple of winners he’s already gleaned from stoopid script directions).

No big rewards, here…just the knowledge that you contributed to the hallowed halls of hooey!

15 Things Not to Say in Your Voiceover Cover Letter

edge studioDavid Goldberg’s Edge Studio in NYC is tops.

No, I’ve not been there.  I HAVE conducted several paid phone sessions with David himself, all worth every penny.

…and I see the clients, the students, and the associates that come and go at Edge…not a slacker in the bunch.

David is about the best I’ve ever seen at picking out what details — sometimes seemingly inconsequential nuances — can make big impressions on your prospects, your clients, the target of your marketing programs and more.

Things like proper spelling, networking etiquette, and understanding the psychology of inter-relating to people.  He’s just tops at that.  Also getting to the point of what will and what won’t ingratiate you to those whose attention you need to curry the most.  Things like designing a website that caters to the eye of your visitors…not you.  Making it cunningly simple for your prospect to take notice of your marketing efforts.

I’m repeating myself.

You’ll see what I mean when you read David’s “15 THINGS NOT TO SAY IN YOUR VOICEOVER COVER LETTER”.  The tips were just one section of his most recent newsletter.  You’d do well to subscribe.  I read each one top to bottom, and I’m the better for it.

TO SUBSCRIBE: send a blank email to:  [email protected]

Also, thanks to David for his permission in reprinting his tips below.  In return he only asks that I post the following:

Voice Island

voice island‘Would love to know if anyone’s used this service, and whether it’s brought success in any way.

It purports to get your name and your work in front of all TV and Radio Stations (and more) on a regular basis.  The one testimonial on the site said it got him a $98,000 job.  That’d be sweet.

August Edition of EQ Mag online now available

EQ_0809‘Always chock-full of great tips, ideas, articles, and trends…EQ Magazine is one of the best deals around.

I always add this caveat:  EQ Mag Online is designed for musicians, audio engineers, studio operations, and those with a techie bent.  HOWEVER, the focus of this magazine is so close to the periphery of what we do in VO, that you can’t help but learn a lot.  The ads alone would be worth it.

Check out this title for one of August’s articles:  “6 Secrets of In-Your-Face Vocals”.

Click HERE to go directly to the August online edition…they’ve tweaked the presentation a little to make it even better.
