Often on weekends, I'm asked to host or Emcee well-organized events benefiting non-profit organizations.
Tonite was one of those nights. But what made it special was the planned venue…the home (complex) or Pierre Omidyar, the founder and CEO of Ebay. Yeah, he lives in Henderson, NV, a suburb of Las Vegas.
The weather today in Vegas was different. Autumn arrived, and weathercasters claimed it might rain. It didn't. There was a wind, not strong. Yet, when we arrived at the Omidyar residence, we were directed to a nearby resort for the event instead because — we were told — the inclement weataher (?!) had somehow fouled-up the plans to host it on the Omidyar residence.
Whatever. I'm not judging 'cause Omidyar is a good community patron. I was only disappointed 'cause I was hoping to meet him.
The event was a success anyway. Las Vegas will soon be the site of a VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE clinic. Maybe the biggest in the nation. It's sorely needed here. The last estimate is that there are some 400,000 uninsured souls in this metro area.
Seed money needed? $3-million. 'Seems like a drop in the bucket compared to $700-Billion.
