This blog actually builds off of the adjacent one below on VoIP, SKYPE and SaVoa.
We all love "free" stuff. I use SKYPE for phone-patches, talking to friends, sharing a whiteboard, doing video conversations, and just for convenience (however,it’s NOT free).
Frank Fredrick introduced me to SkypeRecorder. It’s a low-cost utility that saves all conversations to .mp3 files. They’re not studio quality, but it’s a handy thing to have, and I’ve used it as a back-up resource when interviewing subjects for my work as a writer from time to time.
Now, there’s another — free — utility I just read about in LifeHacker. LifeHacker’s tagline is: "Tech tricks, tips and downloads for getting things done". LifeHacker is a wonderful daily blog FILLED with helpful technical computer suggestions with a wide scope of topics. Many thanks my fellow VO friend Mary McKitrick of the VO-BB for steering me to this site.
One of LifeHacker’s latest posts is about this free recorder for SKYPE. Since many VO artists use SKYPE similarly to the way I do, I figure this might be worth a look-see. I have NOT tried this new idea, yet, but if someone knows anything about it, or has tried it, or will try it…please let me know how it works.

Dave:
I don’t know what it is in my brain that always makes me skittish about freeware.
Maybe it’s the old axiom you get what you pay for.
But at any rate having not tried any of the free ware you mentioned or that was on the blog your referenced, I did want to mention that I have been using Pamela to record on Skype. Yes I did have to pay like $50 or something for it but it’s never given me a bit of trouble.
For what that’s worth,
Best always,
- Peter
Thanks, Peter….I think you’re smart to approach “freeware” with great caution. That’s why I stated in my blog, I had not had the chance to pre-evaluate the software.
User Beware!
